VINCENT

“I am going insane.” I grind my teeth, clenching my jaw.

“Clearly.” Michael doesn’t even dispute the fact I’m off my rocker. I pace up and down the length of my home office, Stella is getting ready for the show, and I am going nuts.

“That’s all you got?” I ask him.

“Maybe I am not the best one to ask, sir. Don’t you have friends for this stuff?” He’s smiling, but he is right. I should talk to someone about this, anyone. I’m afraid I won’t be able to stop whatever it is between her and me and that it will be a public nightmare. “Or do what you want. That has been your way in the past.” Advice is generally wasted on me. I will listen and then do as I please.

“She is going to kill me.” I sigh. “I can’t make good choices when she’s involved. I want to make selfish ones.” It is selfish of me to want her.

“Selfish is not necessarily bad,” he speaks.

“You are not helping.” I huff, sitting down before I wear a rough spot on the marble floors.

“You didn’t ask for help!” Michael laughs at me, “You made a statement.” I don’t want help. I just want Stella. That’s the problem, I want what I can’t have, and I am not used to being in a situation where I don’t get what I want.

“She really did not seem to be opposed to your affections.” He points out. I know Stella thinks she wants me, but I am not sure she can take what she gets if that happens.

“She’s young. She has no clue what she would be getting into.” I verbalize my thoughts, mostly so I can sort them out. “What if she changes her mind?”

“What if she doesn’t?” Fuck him and his rational thinking, really.

“You are bad at this. You are supposed to talk me out of having an affair with a young pop star. Talk sense into me. Warn me of all the possible things that could blow up for us both.”

“An affair or a relationship?” he asks, and it is as if he pulled up the parking brake on my thoughts. “There’s a big difference, Vincent.” I’ve never been in a relationship. I have had affairs, flings, and even situations, but that word is a swear word. It has emotions attached to it. Sex and emotions shouldn’t get wrapped up together. That’s how hearts are broken.

“You can go now, thanks.” I might hit him if he doesn’t.

“Stella is ready, and the pilot is waiting to go,” he says before he closes the office door. I check my watch, I need a few minutes, but we will be late if we don’t go now. I shake my head, pull myself back together, will my dick down, and adjust my pants so no one can see how rock hard I am after that exchange in the hallway.
